Iron stuff is super important in Once Human, right? It’s what makes strong tools that help you chop wood, pickaxes to mine more resources, and even awesome weapons to fight off creepy crawlies and bigger threats. It can even be used to build strong buildings to keep you safe and comfy at night. But where do you find this awesome ore? This guide shows you how to find iron ore in Once Human quickly and easily.
Level Up Your Skills
You can’t just grab iron ore right away. There’s a bit of work to do first. As you play, you earn special points. You can use these points to learn cool skills that will help you out. Once you have some points, spend them on learning how to smelt things in a place called the Memetics menu. This skill is called “Smelting Essentials,” and it’s super important for making tools to get iron.
The next thing you need is something called “Copper Pickaxe” power. This is another skill you learn in the Memetics menu. With this skill, you can finally build a copper pickaxe, which will be your first tool for finding iron ore.
Build Your Pickaxe

Once you have learned the right skills, head on over to your Supplies Workbench. This is where you can build your very own copper pickaxe. To make it, you’ll need a few things. First, you’ll need seven bronze bars. You get these by finding copper ore and melting it down in a furnace, but don’t worry about that for now. Next, you’ll need five logs, which you can get by chopping down some trees with your axe. Finally, you’ll need just one piece of raw hide. You can get this by hunting animals or finding some lying around.
Now that you have your pickaxe, it’s a good idea to think about safety. Iron ore can sometimes be found in places with more danger than your backyard. Here are some tips:
- Make some stronger armor and weapons to keep yourself safe while you look for iron.
- Pack enough food and healing items to stay healthy on your iron hunt.
Where to Find Iron Ore in Once Human
Time for the exciting part – finding the iron! Here’s the best place to get a lot of iron ore quickly:
The Iron River, believe it or not, is named exactly for what you’ll find there: tons of iron ore! It’s a bit tougher of an area though, so make sure you’re around level 20 or higher before you head out there.

Once you reach the Iron River, look for rocky cliffs and big bumps on the ground. Iron ore usually shows up as dark, reddish-brown streaks running through the rock. Here’s how to grab it:
First, take your trusty copper pickaxe out of your bag. Then, walk right up next to the iron ore streak on the rock. Finally, use the button to mine the ore. Your character will automatically grab it and put it in your bag.

The iron ore isn’t quite ready to use yet. There’s one last step:
Head back to your home base and find the furnace. Once you’re there, put the iron ore in the furnace along with some charcoal. The furnace will melt the ore down and turn it into useful iron bars.
With a good amount of iron ore and the know-how to use it, you’re ready to make awesome tools, weapons, and buildings in Once Human. The Iron River is waiting, full of this valuable resource. So gear up, pack your supplies, and become an iron-gathering master!
